Ways Of Car Shipping: Enclosed Car Transport

Brand new, rare and expensive cars are transported to their destination through enclosed car transport. The closed car shipping method places a vehicle inside a safe metal enclosure and stays there locked until it reaches the final point of destination. This method is preferred by most car dealers and manufacturers since they are confident that their vehicles will reach their drop-off points in exactly the same condition that they were in before they were transported.

The main feature of enclosed car shipping that open shipping cannot offer is almost 100% protection from all kinds of harm throughout the time when the vehicles are being shipped. This assurance can give considerable comfort to the car owner since many things can happen during the tranfer.

While open car shipping securely straps vehicles on board the car deck or vessel platform, this uncovered method cannot protect vehicles from harsh weather conditions.

Enclosed car transport protects the shipment from heavy rains, acid rain, hail, sleet, snow and even dust storm and other environmental hazards that can hit anytime. Other probable dangers that can harm the vehicles on board open carrier trucks are road debris such as gravel, pebbles and dust that may have been blown by strong winds. The tiniest airborne particle could scratch your car’s body paint or damage your windshields

A variety of enclosed car transport is rail shipping. Cars are placed exclusively inside rail cargo containers and are shipped by rail. One of the most popular car rail movers is Amtrak.

The special attention and care given to the vehicles make enclosed car transport more expensive than open car shipping. Some shipping companies offer cargo containers with climate control features. Other companies even put on a protective cloak over the vehicle that is already perfectly safe inside the locked container.

The most common vehicles that are shipped this way are a Lamborghini, Hummer, Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Ferrari and the like. (Get the idea?) Sports cars, antique automobiles, and hard-to-find models could not be risked being shipped onboard an uncovered carrier truck. Sometimes, when the military has run out of resources or time that they cannot ship their own vehicles, they hire private car shipping companies and request for enclosed car shipping service.

Long distance or overseas shipping could be hard on the automobiles if not done through enclosed shipping. As uncovered cars are strapped on board the deck of a Roll-On Roll-Off vessel or RORO, the wind over saltwater sea can lead to corrosion and cause tiny scratches. RORO vessels do not tip over and cars for shipping do not normally get into serious problems, but then again it is not wise to ship expensive cars this way.

Enclosed car transport guarantees complete safety from environmental hazards as well as people who might want to ‘sample’ or damage the unattended cars. No one can even lay a hand on your car that could unintentionally scratch it or create a dint. If safety and protection is the car owner’s ultimate concern, enclosed shipping is the only option. The only catch is that the car owner should have a bigger car shipping budget.
