Shipping a Car from East to West Coast - Advice
I am so overwhelmed! I want to ship my car by train preferably from Maryland to Phoenix, Arizona. I have tried looking information up through google but it is a lot of information that seems like it will take forever and a day to sift through without much payoff.
Also, I only seem to be getting information for trucking companies which is really very expensive. Does anyone have any ideas where I can go and how much this will cost?
Answer: Car shipping by truck is more expensive than shipping by rail for a reason. Rail shipping goes to a very specific route; there’s no derailing it. I know that Amtrak is very good at it but it only goes from Virginia to Florida and back. From the West Coast to Northeast (or Midwest), Autolog Auto Train is quite good.
You could find a number of rail shippers if you’re patient, but you should seriously consider trying out truck shipping. Sure, it’s a bit more expensive but it’s easier to find a shipper that way and those guys know what they’re doing.
Car shipping companies provide the insurance, ensure tracking, and have the necessary equipments to make sure your car gets to its destination in one piece. If cost is your concern, there are ways to cut costs: book in advance, pay only for the services you need, and make your car lighter, because shipping costs depend largely on the car’s weight.
