What happens when the car carrier does not pick up the vehicle at the scheduled time?
What happens when the carrier does not pick up the vehicle at the scheduled time?
Answer: This happens quite oftenly,by the way. Car shipping is way different from sending a parcel on UPS or DHL because there are just too many road factors to consider. This is why car shipping companies never commit to certain dates or times.
But this is what you can do. As you negotiate and finalize your contract, settle for a three-day allowance so that you can either look for another company or they pay you. That’s for the pickup. I mean if pick up was delayed, then that simply requires a rescheduling while your car is safely tucked in your garage.
But if delivery was delayed, then you’ve got to worry. Good news, though, is that car movers will give you updates and satellite monitoring on where your car is at the moment. But then again, you should have inserted a clause in your contract that your car shipper should pay you on a day basis per delay of delivery after 3 days.
And give justifiable reasons for it. Acceptable reasons are bad weather and poor road conditions. If you are shipping cars overseas, then there could be sea condition problems or situations at Customs. But whatever it is that’s causing the delay, you should be informed. If at the drop-off point the delay came from you, meaning you didn’t go pick up your car, then they could impound it indefinitely.
