Army Vehicle Transport

Americans never seem to stay in one place anymore. USA Today reports that about 42 million Americans leave home every year to look for a better job, go to college, or move to a new residence. In 2006 alone, about 50 million Americans changed their home address. But none moves around more frequently than an American soldier or army personnel, which is why army vehicle transport continues to grow as an industry.

The children of soldiers are called “military brats” because they have to always move to a new home whenever their soldier-parent is re-deployed to a new military base. Reports said there are approximately 12 million military brats in the United States, who constantly move from state to state, and occasionally to another country.

Whenever soldiers are given a new assignment, their families move along, as well as the family car. In such cases that a soldier only has one privately-owned vehicle (POV), the US government could take care of that and ship the POV using military means. The soldier only needs to come up with the necessary papers and would not need to hire a car transport company. If there is a second car, then an army vehicle transport company is necessary.

When looking for a car transporter, a soldier must consider these things. One, ask an officer for assistance. The military has preferred car shippers since military bases issue gate passes and IDs to make sure that the car transporter is allowed to enter military facilities. A car shipping company that regularly ships POVs may be issued passes more easily than a company that has not been issued a pass before.

Two, hire a car shipping company that has a high regard of the military and the US government. To most Americans, soldiers are heroes. They are looked up as the defenders of the American freedom, which is true. These soldiers do not ask or require any favors in return, but if a car shipping company has that much regard for the military, it could offer special discounts and guarantee quality service.

Three, when stationed to an international base, say Japan or Korea. it is wiser, more practical and less expensive to buy a car in the new country than having the POV shipped all the way, and then sell the car when it’s time to come back home. International car shipping could cost more than $2,000 in shipment alone. Additional costs include Customs, storage fee, importation fee, and modifications when necessary. Some countries may require vehicle modification so that imported cars would fit into their local mode of traffic.

Four, prepare the POV physically. This means needing to remove heavy tool boxes and other unnecessary items inside the car before it gets picked up by the car shipping company.

Army vehicle transport's a growing industry...

Army vehicle transport is a growing industry, alongside the car shipping industry as a whole. There is steady supply of consumers since soldiers are sure to be reassigned to a new military base anywhere in the country and any time of the year. Regular car shipping companies might find it beneficial and lucrative trying out to service the military as long as they show respect for the American flag and the military.
